Terms of Service

Harpoonist (the “Service”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is operated by an individual sole proprietor based in Ontario, Canada (Cameron Hanton). These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Service, including the website at harpoonist.com, our data feeds, and our API. By creating an account, subscribing, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Harpoonist aggregates and presents publicly disclosed financial-trading information — principally U.S. congressional periodic transaction reports and SEC insider filings — in a searchable, sortable form, with optional alerts and programmatic (API) access.

The Service is for informational purposes only and is not investment advice. Nothing on Harpoonist is a recommendation, solicitation, or offer to buy or sell any security, and we are not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, or fiduciary. We do not know your financial circumstances and do not tailor anything to them. Any decision you make is your own; do your own research and, where appropriate, consult a licensed professional.

The information on Harpoonist is derived from third-party public sources, including filings published by the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Those filings are prepared by third parties, and the underlying disclosures may themselves be late, incomplete, amended, or inaccurate.

We provide the information “as is” and do not warrant its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. Full access to trade data — real-time, unredacted, and full history — requires an active paid membership; visitors without a membership see a limited, partly redacted view. Availability, coverage, and timing may change.

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. When you create an account you agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and any API keys, and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at support@harpoonist.com if you suspect unauthorized use. Accounts are for a single individual and may not be shared.

Certain features require a paid membership. Prices are shown at checkout and are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or annual) through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing you authorize us and Stripe to charge your payment method for the then-current fees plus applicable taxes until you cancel.

New memberships may include a free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your membership converts to a paid subscription and your payment method is charged. Your membership renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel.

You may cancel at any time, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period — you keep access until then. Except where required by law, fees already paid are non-refundable, and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial periods or unused access. We may change our prices; any change applies to the next billing period after we give you reasonable notice.

You agree not to:

• use the Service in violation of any law or regulation;
• scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or otherwise extract data from the Service except through our API and within the limits of your plan;
• resell, republish, redistribute, or make the data available to third parties without a commercial license from us (see Section 7);
• reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law;
• probe, scan, or circumvent our security, rate limits, authentication, or access controls;
• share, sell, or transfer your account or API keys, or misrepresent your identity;
• interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.

API access is subject to your plan and its rate and volume limits, and to these Terms. Unless you hold a commercial license from us, your use of the Service and its data is for your own personal, internal, non-commercial purposes only, and you may not redistribute, display, or resell the data or build a product or service on top of it. Commercial and redistribution use requires a separate commercial plan. API keys are secrets tied to your account; you are responsible for their use.

The underlying public filings are public records. However, the Service — including our software, design, compilation, organization, normalization, and presentation of the data, along with our trademarks — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by law. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for the purposes permitted above. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.

The Service relies on third parties, including Stripe for payment processing. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience and are not endorsements.

THE SERVICE AND ALL DATA ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, TIMELINESS, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any data is accurate or complete. You are solely responsible for any decisions or trades you make.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR TRADING LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR CAD $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

You may stop using the Service and cancel your membership at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or to protect the Service or other users. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including Sections 6–12 and 15) will survive.

We may modify or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms; if we make material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as posting the updated Terms with a new date or emailing you. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada for any dispute that is not subject to mandatory arbitration or small-claims resolution under applicable law.
